More than an Office
This home office functions as much more than a work space. It is also the holder of my clients’ family history, photo albums, teaching and writing documents, rug-hooking materials, knick-knacks, gifts and more! Over time, the space seemed like it was becoming oppressive. My client wanted space to breathe and create, but the idea of sorting through these types of materials felt a little daunting and she was hesitant to part with meaningful objects and documents from her life. Note: I will never make you throw things away, if you’re not ready to part with them.
In order to create spaciousness, we created an easy to access organization system that works with my clients’ habits. On our second session we tackled the historical documents. We got through a lot together, but also created some “homework” piles for my client to sort through later. For our third session we finished up the paperwork and organized the desk drawers, creating a system for office supplies, important documents and personal affects (journals etc).
The result is a space that supports my client. She can find the things she needs, has space to create new work and has places to put new items that come into the room.
